U.S. authorities have allowed Pakistani parliamentarians to meet Dr. Aafia Siddiqui


U.S. authorities have allowed Pakistani parliamentarians to meet Dr. Aafia Siddiqui who is currently detained in the U.S., according to Geo News.

Meanwhile, the U.S. authorities have not given the Pakistani parliamentarians permission to visit and assess the condition of Pakistanis detained in Guantanammo Bay prison.

Earlier, Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed, along with members of Senate’s Foreign Affairs Committee, announced to meet Dr. Aafia Siddiqui in U.S. custody. Later the Foreign Office wrote a letter to the U.S. State Department requesting the U.S. authorities to allow Pakistani parliamentarians to meet the detained Dr. Aafia.

According to State Department officials, only those parliamentarians will be able to meet her whom she (Dr. Aafia) allows to do so and all the parliamentarians will have to undergo security screening.
